the winter is coming, way too soon

the winter is coming, way too soon...

as a general rule i dislike winter. the cold in the morning, followed by the short days, the lack of beach and the bare trees does not a favourite season make.

but these would definitely have to be winter's saving grace.

i want one of these so much and someone (me) has a birthday coming up.

this one is by the tree trunk on etsy

and this one is by swak designs on etsy

i think i live the navy better.

the dress part two

it's not perfect, but then again, neither am i

either way, i love it. all the edges are finished and it even has darts,
that's a big accomplishment for me.

there is something so satisfying to making something from scratch

the dress part one

i have been loving navy and stripes of late. i also found this dress online and loved it. so armed with these two news muses, and a borrowed sewing machine, i set about making myself a dress that resembled the style of the mamie dress, but incorporated my current love of navy and stripes. i coerced nick to come to the fabric store with me, and finally settled on the fabric i wanted.

on a side note, the girl at the cash registered over charged me by $1.50 and nick wouldn't let me walk back three steps and ask her to fix it, he made out like i was the bad-ee in the situation. hmpf. anyway.

by no stretch of the imagination am i an accomplished seamstress. this is due to my short attention span and lack of commitment to patterns, but i gave it a go anyway.

i am half way through the process right now. hopefully by tomorrow night i will be done and the finished product will be on this blog. hopefully. so far so good. after my last sewing effort many years ago, i really had no where to go but up.
